Angle of attack in Blade design

Hi David,

In the blade design window, we need to input the value of twist for each section. How about the angle of attack, is it zero for each section or is the twist angle of attack in this blade design.

Thank you in advance! Looking forward to your response. Have a great day.

Warm regards,

Toan Nguyen

Hi Toan Nguyen,

the angle of attack (AoA) that each airfoil sees is not a geometric parameter of the blade design but rather a result of the aerodynamic simulation of a blade design.

The AoA results from the local geometric blade twist angle, the rotational speed of the blade and the velocity thats induced by the rotor itself.

If you search online for the “velocity triangle” you will find many sketches that help visualize this concept.

Best regards,

David
