Floating Vertical Axis Wind Turbine Structure Body File

Hi David

I am learning to use Qblade and trying to create a model of a floating vertical axis wind turbine, but the official website only has floating horizontal axis wind turbines, for example “NREL 5MW OC4 Semisub”. I tried to create a vertical axis wind turbine using myself and build the floating body using the file “OC4_DeepCWindSemi_Main_LPMD.str” but reported an error ”
Keyword: TRQTBFILE not found!”. Is there a suitable structure file or any other solution?

Thanks in advance!
Kind regards
Jelle

Hi Jelle,

To create a floating VAWT model, you could use the SANDIA 34m VAWT template as a starting point.

First, remove the mooring lines from the SANDIA model (remove the CABFILE keyword). Then, adda suitable substructure by adding the SUBFILE keyword to the main structural input file of the SANDIA model.

For the substructure, you might consider starting with the OC3 spar-buoy or the OC4 semi-submersible substructure file. Once added, you can focus on scaling the substructure to match the dimensions of the SANDIA turbine.

Best regards,

David
