Limiting Domain Size

Hi,

I’m attempting to recreate a wind tunnel experiment for a VAWT. I’ve successfully managed to recreate the geometry and create initial simulations. Using the data, I’ve been able to create velocity profiles of the wake. These don’t match the experimental data but do have a similar shape.

To better replicate the conditions within the wind tunnel, I was wondering what functionality QBlade has to limit the size of the domain.

Thanks,

Luke

Hi Luke,

QBlade does not have the capability to define or constrain the simulation domain size to accurately represent a wind tunnel environment.

However, by adjusting the inflow conditions, it is possible to modify the rotor performance within the simulation to approximate its behavior under wind tunnel conditions. For further details, refer to this publication: LINK

It is not possible however to constrain the wake shape or development, besides the “Ground Effect” feature…

David
