Savonius wind turbine simulation in Qblade

Hi,

So far, all my simulations in QBlade are for Darrieus wind turbine.  I am pretty happy with the results.  Now, I try to learn something with Savonius wind turbines.  Is there anyway to do the simulation for Savonius wind turbine in QBlade?  Furthermore, can I do the wind turbine simulation with the combination of Darrieus blades and Savonius blades?

Thank you.

Ron

Hello Ron,

Savonius rotors cannot be modeled in QBlade due to their unique operating principles. These rotors are partially drag-driven, and their performance involves complex fluid dynamics involving significant flow separation. QBlade’s methodologies are not designed to solve such phenomena, making it unsuitable for modeling Savonius rotors.

Typically, these rotors are simulated using finite volume methods.

BR,

David
