Turbine Performance Parameter error when running IEA-15MW turbine simulations
Quote from m.bichan on 19. January 2024, 12:28Hi there,
I have run into an error where both Monopile and VolturnUS variants of the IEA-15MW-RWT models receive the following error messages when running any simulations:
“QSimulation: During Simulation: SIMULATION ABORTED DUE TO NAN VALUES IN GEOMETRY” & “QController: Error: “ROSCO:SetParameters:ReadControlParameterFileSub: >> A fatal error occurred when parsing data from \”C:\\Users\\40479479\\OneDrive – Edinburgh Napier University\\PhD\\QBladeCE_2.0.6.4_win\\QBladeCE_2.0.6.4\\TEMP\\59c2ddda-cd60-4934-b029-8114ebe5683c.IN\”.\n >> The variable \”PerfFileName\” was not assigned a valid value on line #91. ” “
Although finicky, I have found this can be avoided by first editing the Turbine Controller Parameter file, and as suggested by the error message, renaming the variable ‘PerfFileName’, then start the simulation, and immediately stop it during ramp up. In the newly created TEMP folder mentioned above, rename the IEA-15-240-RWT_Cp_Ct_Cq.txt folder to correspond with your new PerfFileName. Restart the simulation.
Kind regards.

great that you found your own way around this issue!
The problem is in fact that the absolute filename of the *.IN file contains spaces. For now, this can also be fixed by running QBlade from a folder location whose full path does not contain any spaces.
From the next release onwards, the PerfFileName variable will be stored as a relative path, fixing this bug.

David

Hi bichan
May I know detailedly on how you can solve this error in step-by-step? Much appreciated!
thanks

if you start the simulation from a folder whose full path does not contain spaces it should work out-of-the-box.
