Qblade how to import bts file

Hello David

I have a question about using the Qblade software and would like to ask you for advice. Regarding the turbulent winds used in Qblade, can I use externally generated turbulent wind data to import into this software? For example, can I use a .bts file generated by OpenFAST’s TurbSim to import into Qblade?

Hello,

you can import .bts files from the top menu, see the attached image.

However, TurbSim is fully integrated with QBlade, so you can also directly “import” a TurbSim input file (.inp) and the Windfield is generated “on the fly”.

Windfields in QBlade are also generated from TurbSim directly.

Best,

David

Dear David.

This is really great. I have one more question for you: I have selected the “Free” option in the “Rotational Speed Settings” before I start the simulation. How do I customize the initial conditions of the wind turbine, especially the initial rotational speed of the turbine? I can’t seem to find where to set the initial speed in the interface. Can you give me some guidance on how to do this? Thank you very much for your help.

Hello Calcin,

from the documentation:

  • Ramp-Up Fixed: The RPM is fixed only during the ramp-up time of the simulation so that when the simulation starts the rotor is operating at the chosen RPM. During the simulation time the rotor rotation is governed by the balance of aerodynamic- and generator torque. This is the recommended setting for simulations that contain a Controller.
  • Always Fixed: The RPM is fixed for the total duration of the simulation to the chosen RPM.
  • Free: For ramp-up and simulation time the rotor rotation is governed by the balance of aerodynamic- and generator torque.

BR,

David
